Dutch cellist Roeland Duijne proudly presents this Russian cello album. He has assembled an appealing compilation of gems from the cello repertoire – music that he has performed with his characteristic tone on many stages throughout the world including those four live recordings. Live recordings are generally less characterized by technical perfection, but reflect artistry and atmosphere better than polished, sometimes somewhat sterile studio recordings. The repertoire he has chosen is tailor made for him and his musical companion: the Giuseppe Sgarbi cello (1853).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roeland has chosen recordings of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Kabalevsky, accompanied by the Magogo Chamber Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Philips Symphony Orchestra and his regular piano partner Rie Tanaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The series Chamber Music in the King’s Hall<\/em> (Kamermuziek in de Koningszaal, KAMUKOZA) is an initiative by Roeland Duijne and his partner in ‘crime’ Jules van Hessen (Maestro Jules), who also presents all the concerts to the public in his unique way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ARTIS King’s Hall restored to its former glory<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This beautiful hall is part of The Groote Museum, which has been open since 1855, gave space to meetings of the
Society Natura Artis Magistra and where performances were held.
The Stadsschouwburg and the Concertgebouw didn’t exist yet and so it fulfilled Groote Museum is an important place for this cultural life in Amsterdam. After a spectacular renovation unique historical place new since 2021 living in. The King’s Hall also has beautiful acoustics and deserved it to be rediscovered.

Both the Groote Museum and the King’s Hall since the near-bankruptcy closed to the public in 1947. The building is fallen into oblivion and the halls that are in the Groote Museum houses are the same best kept secret in Amsterdam.

audience, and up-and-coming talent want the new founded chamber music foundation in the King’s Hall give the King’s Hall back to the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do the legendary cellists Janos Starker, Tibor<\/em> de Machula, Maurice Gendron and Anner Bijlsma<\/em> have in common? They all recognized the talent<\/em> of Roeland Duijne and contributed to his musical<\/em> development. How many cellists can boast a<\/em> background filled with such illustrious masters?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his wanderings around Europe, North and South America, and the Far East he performed as soloist, chamber musician and led many ensembles. The time was right for Roeland to fulfill his other dream; to create a blend between classical and his other great love, pop music. His interest in Miles Davis, Sting, Stevie Wonder and Peter Gabriel has always been as important to him as the works of Boccherini, Schubert, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. On this CD, Mellow Cello explores the crossover of pop and classical music and cre-ates a unique and arresting sound.
The Dutch cellist Roeland Duijne began to play the cello at the age of nine. He studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Tibor de Machula and Anner Bijlsma, the Paris Conservatory with Maurice Gendron and at Indiana University, Bloomington with Janos Starker.
He made his official debut in 1984 as soloist in Elgar’s Cello Concerto during a nation-wide tour of Holland with the National University Orchestra. This was followed by numerous performances, many of them televised, at home and abroad. He gave the world-premi\u00e8re of Johan de Meij\u2019s cello concerto Casanova that he has since played with leading symphonic wind orchestras worldwide. He performed with the Ensemble Intercontemporain conducted by Pierre Boulez, and he has been principal cellist of several orchestras, including the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Roeland was a member of the Quintette de Paris, with whom he played through-out France. Several tours have taken him to the Far East; he appeared as soloist with the Symphony O rchestra’s of Shanghai, Peking, Canton, Singapore and Bangkok, and with the pianist Rie Tanaka he has performed in Sapporo and Tokyo.
His interest in the crossover of classical and pop music has sparked encounters with many different musicians around the world, which has opened up possibilities of creating links between different cul-tures. Producer Koen van Baal, who has worked with The Scorpions (among many others), shares Roeland \u2019s interests in exploring different musical styles and traditions. This collaboration, with skill-ful co-operation from Ward Veenstra, gave shape to the concept of Mellow Cello.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
